Sometimes You Just Feel Sad

It's ironic - or maybe appropriate - that I chose "feelings" as our theme, as mine have been all over the place this week. As my first Fathers Day without my dad approaches, the grief I thought had started to slumber woke up with a vengence. It's been a rough week, and so I fully appreciate this clever little book that reminds us: "Sometimes you just feel sad."

So Happy/So Sad by Julie Paschkis

So Happy/So Sad: So Sad

One cover of this book is titled So Sad while the other is So Happy. You read to the center of the book, close it, flip it, and read the other side. The pages have simple text describing the colorful animals and their respective emotions: the porcupine is pouting, the crocodile is crying, the peacock is parading, the goat is giddy, etc. I love that it covers both ends of the spectrum - happy and sad equally - and that it introduces young children to a new variety of descriptive words.

In case you missed it, here is the list of this week's books about feelings:

  1. If it helps at all, Father's Day for me now is a nice time to remember my father, maybe not joyously happy, but pleasant. It takes quite a few years, but it does come. I focus a lot with the kids too, on showering their father with love. After all, dads are great - they should really enjoy theirs while he's around :)

  4. It takes a few years before Father's Day isn't a bitter sweet thing.

And, I think there is a cookie book for a bunch of different things, I've got her Christmas one and love it.

  6. Christianne,

I'm so sorry to hear about your Father. My Father passed away when I was 11 and I remember those sad Sundays. He was on of the great dads and it sounds like yours was too.

I want to check out the Cookies book for sure. I love Amy's creative approach to topics!

I was just thinking and talking about your Love My Library link up the other day too. That was really fun and informative!
