Baby Gift Idea

Is it just me or is the whole world pregnant? It's probably just my stage of life, but I feel as if everyone is sporting a swelling belly. For me, this means a steady stream of baby shower invitations.


Now if there's one thing I've learned from the dozens of baby showers I've attended, it's this: people always give clothes. Baby clothes are cute and irresistible, but the mom-to-be very often ends up with enough outfits to clothe quintuplets. A better idea is to pick something off her registry. But with the nearest Babies R Us 30 minutes away, I'm left to try to put together a practical, cute gift the mom will love and I will feel good about giving.

Hence I present the Favorite Things Basket!

Start with a cheap basket (Target and Michaels often have them in their dollar-ish sections). Layer the bottom with tissue paper and then add the baby products you simply loved. For me that was California Baby Calming Diaper Rash Cream, Aquaphor Baby, and Johnson's Baby Bath Bedtime. Then of course you have to add a book.

For this basket I included Tiger Tales' Hey, Diddle, Diddle. I always feel good about giving Tiger Tales' books as gifts because the quality of the books themselves is so high. This one is a lovely collection of favorite nursery rhymes paired with cute, colorful illustrations. We started reading to our kids as soon as we brought them home from the hospital, and the sing-song quality of nursery rhymes is perfect for reading to newborns.

Finish the whole thing off with a sweet, handmade "boo-boo bunny," and a card labeled with the phrase "These are a few of our favorite things." I promise, the mom will love every little bit!
