The "comfort food" of books...

This was not how either of us thought we'd be spending the week. She puking into a metal bowl. Me disinfecting every surface. Twice.

Confined to her yellow loveseat, she's watched nearly every Disney movie we own and whole seasons of PBS programming. And just when I think I'll go mad if I see one more episode of Wild Kratts, she turns off the TV and asks me to read to her.

We're halfway through her first foray into Narnia. I can't think of a more perfect book to escape into during a week of sickness. The Chronicles of Narnia are my comfort food. They're the books my mom read aloud to me as a child, and the ones I turned to after my dad died. I hope for the same for her - that the adventures of the four Pevensie children will capture her heart and imagination, transporting her from her bowl and her couch into a marvelous land called Narnia. And that she'll want to return again and again.

What is your "comfort food" book?

  1. I used to read The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe to my second graders. They loved it.

    Hope your daughter feels better!

  6. I love the Chronicles of Narnia... I can read those over and over!

I also love Pride and Prejudice (read 4 times now), and the Harry Potter books (read the whole series at last 8 times), and Star Girl ( I think I have read that 3 times).

Hope your baby feels better and that you don't get it! :)

  8. I'm so sorry she's sick! I have never read those books. I have to say, I'm not much of a reader. My favorite book as a child, was The Boxcar Children. I am enjoying reading the series to my daughter. We are on book 7!

  9. My mom didn't read books to me. I started reading by myself around the age of 12, with the Harry Potter series. So they are my comfort food :)
