The Virginia State Reading Association sent home a bookmark with E today. It listed the top 10 "reader's choice" picks for K-3. I was surprised by how few we've read!
1. Chester by Melanie Watt
2. Dog and Bear: Two Friends-Three Stories by Laura Vaccaro Seeger
3. Duck! Rabbit! by Amy Krouse Rosenthal
4. Hansel and Gretel by Rachel Isadora
5. I Ain't Gonna Paint No More! by Karen Beaumont
6. I'm the Biggest Thing in the Ocean by Kevin Sherry
7. Katie Loves the Kittens by John Himmelman
8. Rhyming Dust Bunnies by Jan Thomas
9. Too Many Toys by David Shannon
10. Wangari's Trees of Peace: A True Story from Africa by Jeanette Winter
Only three out of ten!?! I'm slipping. :) You can read my reviews on I Ain't Gonna Paint No More!, Rhyming Dust Bunnies (which I have since read and love!), and Too Many Toys. The rest you're going to have to tell me about. Have you come across any of these? Which would you recommend?
We have I am the Biggest Thing in the Ocean! And it is one of our favorite! Super cute!
ReplyDeleteA giant squid goes around bragging about how he is bigger then most of the sea creatures until he runs into a whale! But you can't keep this squid down... he exclaims "I'm the biggest thing in this whale!"
I will have to get working in this list!
we've read them all and LOVE them some more then other but we really like them!!!
ReplyDeleteI just discovered Duck! Rabbit! and Rhyming Dust Bunnies. My students love Too Many Toys. So many books.....so little time.
ReplyDeleteWe've only read one of those! My boys love Duck! Rabbit! They think it's silly.
ReplyDeleteI haven't even heard of most of them. We just checked out the Katie book yesterday, but haven't read it yet. We've also checked out Chester's Masterpiece which looks like it's the same character and is really cute.
ReplyDeleteWe haven't read a lot of these either, but I love anything by Amy K Rosenthal!
ReplyDeleteWow, there's a bunch we haven't read either! Thanks for sharing this!!
ReplyDeleteMelanie Watt is a Canadian author and has a series of Chester books as well as Scaredy Squirrel books. The kids in my Kindergarten class love all of these books...they are definitely "read it again" books.
ReplyDeleteWe love I aint gonna paint no more... saw it in a bookstore and had to take it home... it is so fun my 2 yo love it
ReplyDeleteThis list will give me ideas for so many blog posts.
