Playdough Fairy Garden

I mixed up some of my favorite play dough to let A make her own fairy flower garden. This play dough turns out so smooth and non-crumbly, I much prefer it to store-bought. Today we used it as a base for the garden.

I gave A a basket of silk flowers (leftover from E's Fancy Nancy party last year) and let her arrange them in the "garden."

She's got her grammy's gift for flower arranging! When she was finished, I gave her a few of these adorable fairy cupcake toppers to add to the garden. Aren't they precious? My boss found them at TJ Maxx and had to pick them up for my girls.

Half an hour later, and she's still playing in her garden. I don't blame her... I might just join in!

Fairy Colors by Caroline Repchuk

Fairy ColorsThis is about the cutest book I could find on fairies, although it's a little young for A. As you may have guessed, the story is about different colored fairies getting ready for a ball. It's a nice reinforcement of colors, and the sparkly pages will probably hold the attention of babies and young toddlers.

But I want something better. So spill it... other than Disney and Dora, what fairy-themed books are worth reading to my kids?

  1. At first I thought the flowers were made out of play dough!

A certainly does have a knack for floral arrangement. What fun!

I have had this book on my wish list for a while, but I haven't actually read it. I requested it from the library but it hasn't come in yet. http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Book-Flower-Fairies-Special/dp/0723266263/ref=lh_ni_t_

  2. the fairy series books by daisy meadows are actually pretty ok. there are sooo many of them, and they are easy to read, but I find the fact of the two main characters, best friends, going on adventures together, very charming.

  9. Cute activity! We actually have that book and, yes, babies and toddlers love it. It's been one of Ansley's favorites for a while now (Caedmon even chooses it sometimes.)

  10. A book I love is "The Story of the Root Children" by Sibylle Von Olfers. It's not technically a fairy book (the little root children don't have wings) but we called them wingless fairies. It has beautiful watercolor illustrations and tells about the changing of the season from winter to spring. It might be hard to find new, but they had it in my local library.

  18. This sounds like an awesome idea! I'll have to try this with the girl I babysit. My daughter, K, isn't old enough for it quite yet!

PS. I love how you connect your crafts with books often. Not only does it help with ideas, but it helps me think about my future library for K! Thank you!

  19. What a wonderful project. Emily and Juliette would love to do this. I love homemade play dough too, it is so much nicer to work with than store bought. We will have to check the library for this book.

  22. You must read "The Night Fairy" with your oldest. My daughter loved it last year. We also like "Fairy Houses" by Kane.

We're just starting to look up books about the tooth fairy, so if you get any suggestions on that theme send them my way!
